RODA SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES
Whether you just want a relaxing holiday, soaking up the sun on the beach or by one of the numerous pool, you may decide to explore the beautiful Corfiot countryside around Roda and further afield. This page gives you all the popular activities available from Roda.
BOAT TRIPS – There are daily trips from Roda that visit a number of destinations around Corfu, from Corfu Town to the island of Erikoussa. Bookings can be made at some village travel agents or directly with Helen outside of the Roda Inn. At the moment, all trips start & finish at the harbour in Astrakeri which is just around the headland west of Roda. The five minute transfer from Roda is included.
BOAT HIRE – Roda has two boat hire operators, one at each end of the Village.  A half day hire opens up the whole of the north coast of Corfu, from St. Spiridon in the east, to Canal d’Amour in the west. This area extends beyond the magnificent St George’s Bay in both directions and gives visitors a perspective of the Corfu coast that cannot be seen any other way.
WATER SPORTS – Right on the beach, half way along the seafront, you will find Stamatis and his water-sports pavilion. Very popular with all ages, particularly during the hot summer months, there is a whole host of different rides available as well as paragliding and water-skiing.
DIVING – Diving is an exhilarating pastime, whether you doing it for the first time or you are experienced. In Roda itself, there are no
facilities for diving but, within a few kilometres, there are a number of professional centres
offering superb opportunities. There is diving in north Corfu every day from May to October and you can choose to dive during the day, or at night, you can do two-day trips or single half-days, you can select the level of dive that suits you best, you can start as a complete beginner or extend your diving skills – everyone is catered for.
FISHING – The waters of St George’s Bay make Roda a good centre for a bit of sea fishing while on holiday. As with all fishing, fortunes vary, but we do hear of some people having great success. There are a number of shops supplying basic equipment and Roda does have a good tackle shop near to the Village crossroads. If you want to know where to go, watch the locals.
SWIMMING – Roda has a safe, Blue Flag beach with a gently sloping sandy bottom. There is very little in the way of tides, currents or undertow and it is the perfect beach for swimmers of all ages and abilities. If the sea is not for you, there are probably twenty-five swimming pools in and around the Village where you are welcome to spend the day as long as you buy a snack or a drink.
HORSE RIDING – One of the most popular pastimes is a two-hour trek around the wild countryside and quiet lanes at the edge of Roda. Again, there is good supervision, horses of all sizes and rides for both novices and experienced riders. The treks take place four times a day and almost every day from the beginning to the end of the season.
WALKING – The list of places to walk is considerable. Lying on a narrow, fertile coastal plane with the sea on one side and the mountains behind, Roda offers so many opportunities to explore on foot. The Village itself, and the
roads along the coast, are mostly on level ground, but go a kilometre inland and you start to climb – gently at first and then up you go! Apart from the surfaced roads, there is a whole network of interconnecting tracks and pathways that have been used for centuries. Many pass through Corfu’s famous olive groves, and you will soon discover why this little island produces something like 3% of the world’s olive oil.
CYCLING – Again, the coastal strip that runs along the north of Corfu offers some wonderful routes for cycling. Bicycles are available for hire at several places in the Village and Roda is perfectly situated to explore roads and lanes to the east or west. More ambitious riders may cycle south and get up into the numerous hillside villages that pop up out of the olive groves when you least expect them.
KEEP FIT – Roda has its own modern gymnasium for those who want to maintain or improve their fitness levels while they are away. It is fully equipped and very popular.
JEEP & QUAD BIKE SAFARIS – Supervised safaris are an exciting way to discover the hillsides around Roda and there are many excursions, both on and off-road, to choose from.
CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES – Apart from the beach, Roda has a number of play areas for children. Some are at apartment complexes themselves and others at various bars around the Village. There is a bouncy castle for the younger ones & one amusement arcade and a go-cart track for those a little older.
