Long, lazy lunches and memorable evening meals will help you recall happy times spent relaxing in Roda’s special atmosphere. Nowhere is this more true than at ‘Taverna OPA’, where Yiannis & Eleni provide top quality, local and international dishes, freshly cooked from local produce. Situated right on the seafront, opposite the harbour and with easy parking nearby, you can easily loose a couple of hours enjoying spectacular food and magnificent views of the mainland.
Taught by his mother, Yiannis has been cooking since he was ten years old and he is passionate about working with only the very best ingredients to provide his guests with special meals they will never forget. Eleni is so enthusiastic about Yianni’s reputation that you will feel like ordering more than one main dish in case you miss out on something delightful.
If it is local Corfiot cooking you are looking for, we can tell you that OPA’s reputation spreads far and wide and many people come all the way from Corfu Town just to enjoy local specialities like ‘pastitsada’ and ‘bourdhetto’. As far as we know, Yiannis is the only chef in Roda to cook ‘skartotseta’, a special recipe handed down to him by his grandmother. On Sundays in particular, Corfiots like to go out to eat fish and OPA is one of their favourite destinations. To accompany your meal, Eleni can offer you an exciting selection of Greek wines, all at sensible prices.
Although OPA serves all manner of meat, cheese and vegetable dishes, pizzas, pastas and their own special ‘mezes’, it is fish that is their real passion. None of their fish is farmed and everything is freshly caught & delivered by a local fisherman. As a result, OPA will often be able to serve you with unusual fish such as ‘grouper’ and their fish platter will test the appetites of the most dedicated fish aficionados. Eleni tells us that ‘astakomacaronia’ (fresh lobster served with a piquant tomato sauce on a bed of spaghetti) is the number one dish for Greek fish lovers. It is one of Yianni’s signature dishes.
Many people plan their holidays around gastronomic experiences where every meal is carefully considered and planned. Roda is a fishing village at heart and food is taken very seriously; nowhere is this more true than at OPA, where you can enjoy local products and an excellent menu in a spectacular setting.
